Muslim World - Online Education

I was have been recently attending to the great online course - Constitutional Struggles in the Muslim World by University of Copenhagen . It has been a very interesting journey through the Muslim world. I have never had an opportunity to see this type of overview which is sophisticated enough and gives a big picture of how complex and interesting it is. I was not able to watch all the videos in the time frame provided and also missed some readings - but I saved it all for later to definitely come back to the material to continue my education. Even now I understand how important the issues raised by certain groups of religious people are to them in a geopolitical and historical context and I know more about Islam as well. I think the main aims of the course - 'to equip participants to better understand Muslim contemporary discourse about the res publica , better contextualise the demands for religious law in public life, and to better ascertain the theoretical and practic...

Online education - good value

Have read Move over MOOCs this morning. Interesting article, but it looks lacking of a more thorough research and only mentions two startups in the online education area. I have been studying with MOOCs for more than a year now and have completed a handful of free courses at Coursera from leading education providers like Stanford University, University of London, Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, Wesleyan University etc. The courses format is lectures, quizzes, homework, assignments etc. It's definitely helpful. I indeed enjoyed some of them related to law and economics and social psychology from Wesleyan, law from London university, and Wharton MBA related courses. I personally have only got a limited timeframe to spend on studies so the courses I mentioned fit very well into my schedule. Others require a bit more time to do homework and reading or were not well prepared for the online format therefore I couldn't complete those. However I got a de...

Online cinemas

Once I was standing at the bus stop waiting and saw an advertisement on one of the buses about a new movie that started in cinemas that day. And I thought - it must be a great idea to organize the online cinema. Not one of those currently existing in variety that provide paid or free access to some archived movies from the past, but the proper cinema that shows what is currently on show. I realized that the main issues in building this sort of project would be to convince the major movie studios and intellectual property holders to follow this model and also the regular cinemas would be strongly against this idea. Today I stumbled upon this article: http://allthingsd.com/20131028/netflix-flirts-with-a-new-idea-big-movies-at-your-house-the-same-day-theyre-in-theaters/ Interesting to see what this idea will develop into.

English Common Law - Online Course

Just finished: English Common Law: Structures and Principles , University of London Interesting course. Good introduction to the history of English law and issues related to it's structure and to the EU presence. UPDATE: Got my grades recently. Happy with the result! There is another Law course that I'd like to recommend  Property and Liability: An Introduction to Law and Economics . In my opinion it's one of the best online courses that I have seen so far not just in Law, but in general. In regards to legal studies the course is a great introduction into the subject.

iWork for iCloud - first impression

Today have got a hold of iWork for iCloud beta . I use MS SkyDrive and Docs for Facebook for online documents editing at the moment. So I decided to give iWorks for iCloud a quick try. Started with Numbers:  Browser is not fully supported: Checked, need Chrome 27 for full support I guess: However it still works: Tried to "Share", but received a message that iCloud Mail isn't set up: Does it mean that I can only share the link in an email? Tried uploading the working Excel spreadsheet: Drag-n-dropped: Here we go: Looks mostly fine, but got some formatting issue: Then tried Pages: Same message about the browser: $525,000?! Nice and clean interface: Tried some typing and found some minor issues: Have just installed Google Chrome 27 . Going to use iWorks for iCloud for some time to try it's features. Looks nice.
